Our third and final review in Little White Bird Press’s quest to sell a million copies of The Promise by Christmas – possibly next Christmas! – is a star of the screen and stage in Ireland and abroad. A recent winner of the Irish Film and Television Award for Best Actress in a lead role, Clare Dunne was listed by EFP this year as one of ten European Shooting Stars. EFP Shooting Stars from the past have included Carrie Mulligan, Daniel Craig and Rachel Weisz. In 2020, Clare Dunne co-wrote and starred in the drama film, Herself, directed by the inimitable Phyllida Loyd (Mama Mia, The Iron Lady). Herself is available for viewing in Australia on Stan.

Review by Clare Dunne
The Promise is somehow grounded in a place we feel we remember. It’s delicate illustration, and matter of fact advice from its central character taps into a deeper wisdom that feels so familiar, so knowing and so within us.
A thoroughly satisfying read for children and adults. It soothes and challenges all at once.
It's central character poses the question: Perhaps we do not need to conquer this world but listen to it?
Richard Dove reminds us of the glory in the things we often take for granted on this earth in a most poignant truthful journey.
Magnificent, charming, gentle and wise. A book to keep forever in your home and read again and again.
